  • When the Pain Ends

    When the Pain Ends

What would it be to feast on joys
Without the knowledge they will end?
To live a life untangled from
    The vicious knots of sin?

To look upon a little child
And know he would stay pure?
To bask in frindship without need?
    No guile to be endured?

    To find in eternality
    No loves which go away?
To live within a body over which
    Death holds no sway?

Entombed in time, I cannot fathom,
    Cannot comprehend,
What lies in store for those You love,
A day when this pain ends.

  • end of the school year...kind of

RCS Last Day Latin 007 RCS Last Day Latin 005 Yesterday we wrapped up our Latin class at Riverwood Classical, and held our last Catechism Class for the school year also.  I always feel nostalgic after there "endings."  I am so glad the Lord has blessed me with children to work with.  My son wrote recently saying he was glad to see I hadn't "hung up the ax"  (ax...did he say ax? ha)and continued to teach other people's children after mine have grown up and, excepting Sam, have flown the coop.  Anyway, since my conversion in 1976 the Lord has given me great joy to be a part of many young lives, and to be honest, I usually prefer the company of children to that of adults.  They're so interesting and so often without guile and wile!  I keep thinking "I'm getting too old for this,"  but so far, he blesses me and keeps enabling. I thank Him.

  • your life is like a vapor...

Sam's jeep - baseball tournement 011 Here's my mom...who will be 88 this summer.  Seen with my son Sam, 17, in front of his first vehicle.  And below are some of the children in my Latin class. We were having a party to celebrate everyone in the class being able to recite the Pater Noster.  Quite an achievement. Working with children, and/or having children of your own really makes one realize how short and fleeting life is.  What happened to those boys who were so little such a short time ago?  Now they are men for all practical purposes. And before you know it, it will be the same for these little guys in my class.  Oh moms....treasure them while you have them.  Soon you'll be like me, wondering where the time went and mourning your empty nest!

  • Holy Week

Three men shared death upon a hill

    But only one man died.

A thief and God Himself made rendevous.

Three crosses still are borne up Calvary's hill

Where sin still lifts them high.

Upon the one hang broken men who, cursing, die.

Upon the other hangs the thief and those

    As penitent as he,

Still find the Christ beside them on the tree.

Author unknown (can't find the source)

I memorized this poem many years ago, and can't find the scrap of paper in a journal somewhere that list the author, if it does.  Good meditation for Holy week, I think.Crucifixion-Mantegna-large

  • St. Patrick's Day

    st_patrick

Christ with me, Christ before me,

Christ behind me, Christ within me,

Christ beneath me, Christ above me,

Christ at my right hand, Christ at me left.

Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me,

Christ in the mouth of every man who speaks to me,

Christ in every eye that sees me,

Christ in every ear that hears me.                                   St. Patrick
